Charles Ameh

Dr Charles Ameh (MBBS, FWACS-OBGYN, MPH, PhD, SFHEA, FRSPH, FRCOG) is a Professor in Global Health, co-Director World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Maternal and Newborn Health, and Head International Public Health Department, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He is also a member of the WHO Maternal, Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response Technical Working Group, member of Africa CDC covid-19 task force, a member WHO Technical Advisory Group on Maternal Mortality and Maternal Cause of Death Estimation, member of the Alliance for Improving Midwifery Education steering committee, and the FIGO expert advisory committee on The Leadership Development Initiative. He is an obstetrician, applied global health and implementation science researcher with an established international reputation in Emergency Obstetric Care capacity strengthening (undergraduate and postgraduate). His thematic areas of research are Capacity Strengthening, Midwifery faculty development, Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care, Obstetric Early Warning Systems, Maternal Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response, Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths, Antenatal, Intrapartum, and post-natal care and Health System Strengthening in low-income countries. He has published considerably in the field of global maternal health. He is an adjunct faculty at the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Nairobi, external examiner to Moi University Kenya and London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Charles is also on the editorial board of several leading global Public Health journals. He has led multi-country grants in over 15 counties in Africa and Asia including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Togo, Chad, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Ethiopia, Somaliland, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
