Valeria Mondelli

Prof Valeria Mondelli is Professor of Psychoneuroimmunology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) and a Liaison Consultant Psychiatrist at King’s College Hospital. After having obtained her medical degree and specialty degree in psychiatry at the University of Turin in Italy, she moved to London in 2005 where she obtained her PhD in Psychological Medicine in 2009. She was then awarded a NIHR Clinical Lectureship, and continued to conduct her research and clinical work between the IoPPN and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. She has been awarded approximately £2M as PI and £2.4 as co-I. Her research focuses at the interface between physical and mental health with a particular focus on immune and stress-related biomarkers. She has co-lead a global mental health consortium aiming to identify predictors of depression early in adolescence (IDEA project). Prof Mondelli is also the co-lead of the Psychosis and Mood Disorders Theme at the NIHR SLaM BRC. Prof Mondelli is Associate Editor of the journal Brain Behaviour and Immunity. She has received various awards, including the Emerging Leaders in Adolescent Mental Health Prize by the Medical Research Foundation and the BAP Senior Clinical Psychopharmacology Award. She has published over 180 scientific publications and she is one the 2020 and 2021 Highly Cited Researchers (Clarivate, Web of Science).
