Md Foyjul Islam

Dr. Md Foyjul Islam is a public health physician and epidemiologist currently serving as a Medical Officer in the Department of Epidemiology at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Bangladesh. He is a graduate of the Advanced Tier of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) and holds an MSc in Applied Epidemiology from the University of Dhaka. Dr. Islam has significant experience in infectious disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and field-based public health response. He has led and supervised investigations of major outbreaks including Nipah virus, diphtheria, anthrax, and other priority zoonotic and vaccine-preventable diseases across various regions of Bangladesh. His research interests focus on women’s health, non-communicable diseases, and HPV-related conditions. He has actively contributed to the evaluation of the national cervical cancer screening program, conducted studies on HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among high-risk populations (including coastal and hill tract communities), and worked on a seroprevalence study 36 months after single-dose HPV vaccination. He has also analyzed data from Bangladesh’s electronic population-based cervical and breast cancer screening system. Dr. Islam is committed to strengthening evidence-based public health systems through applied epidemiological research, training, and collaborative outbreak response.
